Inaugural War Studies Keynote: Command on the Falklands War - Professor Sir Lawrence Freedman

Europe/London
Description

We are delighted to welcome Professor Sir Lawrence Freedman to give a talk on the Falklands war at our 2022 annual conference in Newcastle. The talk will be the first in-person event of the War Studies Working Group.

The lecture will argue the importance of looking at the interaction of operational and political considerations when considering the role of command in war. It will examine two episodes in the war - the sinking of the Belghrano and the battle for Goose Green.

Lawrence Freedman is Emeritus Professor of War Studies at King’s College London. He was Official Historian of the Falklands Campaign as well as a member of the Official Inquiry into the Iraq war. Among his recent books are Strategy: A History (2013), and the Future of War: A History (2017). Command: The Politics of Military Operations from Korea to Afghanistan will be published in September.

This event is free and open to the public. If you are already registered for the BISA 2022 conference you do NOT need to register again here.
