Newcastle was the epicentre of the 2008 financial crisis (with the collapse of Northern Rock), and has suffered disproportionately from the austerity programme that followed, experiencing £327 million in cuts to the Newcastle Council budget alone. Thus, it is a fitting location a decade on to reflect upon what makes austerity possible and what austerity makes possible in its wake, including community led resistance and regeneration. Our esteemed panel will discuss dynamics traversing markets, finance, austerity, inequalities, and world politics.
This event will be open to the general public.
