Description
Through the contours of this paper, I want to understand how the notion of "othering" among religious communities has given rise to majoritarianism in the border district of Nadia in West Bengal during the last ten years primarily between 2012-22 since the victory of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) at the state level in West Bengal and the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) at the national level in India. I want to adopt a phenomenological approach where the “lived experiences” of ordinary people - marginalised Hindus and Muslims within the district are taken into consideration to better understand the situation on the ground and assess how propaganda percolates at the local level to widen the gap between communities on the one hand while understanding its impact on India-Bangladesh on the other.
