Palestinians in the Post\ Pre Factionalism Era

22 Jun 2023, 13:15

Description

The Palestinian People have established, since the mid-1960s, relatively large number of political organizations, usually called as liberation ‘movements’, ‘Fronts’ and ‘factions’.
In the 1990s for several reasons, the Palestinians ‘factions’ lost large part of its attraction among the Palestinians in general, and among the youth in particular.
In parallel with the wave of protests in different Arab countries of what was called “the Arab Spring” in the years 2011- 2014, Palestinian youth developed networks of protest and resistance, named by several observers as “The post Factional Powers”, with features such as refusing central leadership or organization, immediate actions, denouncing ideology, lacking long term goals, etc.
In the year 2021- 2022 new armed groups appeared in the northern cities of the West Bank, depends on building local organizations, without affiliations with factions or ideology. I argue that the new organizations is going back to patterns of societal grouping that is pre-modernist and pre-factional patterns.
I will study the features of the two groups of ‘organizations’ the post factional networks and the new pre-factional groups depending on field research and interviews.
