Transitional justice initiatives in Turkey

This event hosts three speakers to examine Turkey’s ad-hoc transitional justice initiatives in the Kurdish conflict and to discuss the prospect for TJ in light of recent political developments and the recent devastating earthquake. Ahead of the general and presidential elections in May 2023, Turkey is on the brink of change. As the AKP government intensifies its authoritarian regime, public and political discourse have focused on a pending transitional process amidst malfunctioning legal and government institutions which were proved again in the course of the earthquake and the state’s disaster response. Whether or not the upcoming elections in May 2023 will lead to a regime change, recent developments signal that it is even more important to ponder the prospect for dealing with the past in Turkey.
