The Astropolitics Working Group (AWG) workshop is being held on Monday 11 December, 2023. All BISA AWG members are invited to attend this 1-day event at Space Park Leicester, in the city of Leicester. The event is being supported by BISA, the University of Leicester, and Space Park Leicester.
The workshop will begin at 10am and finish at 5pm, and lunch is included.
In this workshop, we will have:
To attend, please complete the registration form by 5.00pm on Friday 27 October 2023. This event will be in-person only.
Guest Speaker: We are delighted to confirm that Bronwen Halfpenny-Ray of the UK Space Agency will be providing opening remarks for us at the event.
Research: We are inviting all guests to present their ongoing or recently completed/published research. This could be a book, article, chapter, or a portion of your PhD thesis in progress. It could also be a paper you wish to prepare and practice ahead of the BISA 2024 Annual Conference. You will need to send us an abstract, but no full draft/paper is required for the presentation. The full programme will be confirmed following the end of the registration period. Presenting research is not required for attendance, but it is encouraged. The convenors’ intention is that the workshop should be a safe and specialist environment to try things out and share initial findings if you are not ready to present at a large conference yet, especially for those who have not presented at a conference before.
Agenda: As the AWG is a relatively small group, the AWG Convenors want you to tell them if there is a topic or theme you’d like us to cover in a panel session or a roundtable. Please put in any thematic suggestions for a panel or roundtable discussion in the registration form.
Location: The Away Day will take place at Space Park Leicester, 92 Corporation Road, Leicester, LE4 5SP. You can find out more about Space Park Leicester here: https://www.space-park.co.uk/
Accommodation: Guests will need to arrange their own accommodation. The University of Leicester’s hotel and conference centre, College Court, offers discounted rates when booking with any .ac.uk email account. For more information, visit here: https://collegecourt.co.uk/ College Court is located at Knighton Road, Leicester, LE2 3UF.
Travel: Leicester is served by trains on the East Midlands Railways main line and branch lines throughout the English Midlands. If driving, it is reached via the M1/M69 junction. The closest airports are Birmingham International and East Midlands Airport.
Travel Bursary: BISA has a small number of travel bursaries available. Please state on the registration form if you would like to be considered for a travel bursary to help cover costs. These will be prioritised for early career researchers and graduate students.
National Space Centre: For those able to stay into Tuesday morning 12th December, the AWG Convenors will be visiting the National Space Centre: https://www.spacecentre.co.uk/ The cost of entry will not be covered, but guests are more than welcome to join the convenors if they wish to do so.
The final agenda will be shared shortly after registration closes.
