Afghanistan adopted UNSCR 1325 (2000) Women, Peace, and Security in 2015 and developed a relevant Action Plan, however the WPS agenda disregard, which resulted in the Taliban taking power in 2021 and elimination of women from public spheres. However, over two years Afghan women in varies forms have been defying the Taliban regime gender-based discrimination and persecution. This essay examines the future direction of women, peace, and security in Afghanistan in light of women’s resistance against the Taliban. The essay departs from rigid lens of merely women’s participation in peace process and conflict resolution, rather will explore the implication of women, peace, and security agenda as an entry point by exemplifying women’s role in peace and reconciliation process for the purpose dismantling the status quo of political impress and paving the way for transformative justice and sustainable peace in Afghanistan.
