UG event series - Artificial Intelligence: Thinking beyond the headlines

In recent years, generative artificial intelligence has upended much, leaving winners and losers in its wake. Within academia, much of the focus has, understandably, been on the impact, whether positive or negative, on the writing process.

Whilst not denying the importance of these discussions, this session will try to move beyond such them. This will be done to help students reflect on how to engage critically with tools of generative artificial intelligence. Building on a research project that is exploring the value of ChatGPT as a tool for social science research, this interactive session run by Peter Finn will explore ways to think about the use of generative artificial intelligence in the context of international affairs and the workplace.

 

Peter Finn is a multi-award winning Senior Lecturer in Politics at Kingston University, London. His research focuses on various elements of democracy and democratic governance. He is a Co-Editor of ‘The Official Record: Oversight, National Security and Democracy’ (Manchester University Press, 2024), and researches various aspects of the US electoral system. He is a regular media commentator, and is the Web Team Lead for the American Politics Group of the Political Studies Association.
