Pedagogies of IR theory

Europe/London
Description

This workshop celebrates and explores the forthcoming publication of the Palgrave Handbook on the Pedagogy of International Relations Theory (2024). By gathering globally diverse contributors from a variety of disciplinary subfields, including prominent theoreticians, pedagogical experts, and instructors, this 70+ chapter volume examines various pedagogies and pedagogical practices for teaching different International Relations (IR) theories to different student groups across the world. The book encourages readers to consider and reflect upon the significance of pedagogies of IR theories as part of our vocation,  particularly since theories are often the most difficult subjects for students to understand and for instructors to teach. This book is an empowering, reflexive and practical pedagogical tool for IR scholars in various stages of their careers, as it advances key ideas, approaches and tactics about pedagogy aimed at both enriching and transforming thought, discussions, exchanges, and experiences about teaching IR theories across the world. This roundtable brings together the book’s editors and chapter contributors to discuss the book’s contribution to the question and practice of pedagogy in the discipline as well as the ways in which scholars and practitioners can draw upon it for their own pedagogical practices and in their own teaching environments.
