This year’s annual conference is centred on the theme of settler colonial violence and those violences made permissible through the framing of ‘terrorism’. This further invites a focus on the ongoing and current settler colonial violence in Gaza which has been described as a plausible genocide by the ICJ. Internationally, a broad application of the term ‘terrorism’ is currently being used to curtail freedoms of speech, expressions of solidarity, and the right to protest, confirming previous warnings by the UN Special Rapporteur on Counter Terrorism and Human Rights.
