Description

This paper studies the changes in the primary institution of sovereignty in the Arab state system from its emergence following the fall of the Ottoman Empire after World War I to the Arab Spring. It also identifies the similarities and differences between the practices of sovereignty in the regional Arab state system and international society. The paper provides a new analytical framework to study sovereignty. It contributes to the IR literature on international society, the English School of International Relations, practices, Global IR, and international relations in the Middle East.
