Description

The recent Russia- Ukraine conflict has stood as one of the geopolitical wars in the Eastern Europe whose impact continues to call for international attention owing to not only global economic instability but impaired mental health of millions of people including children. This paper investigates the adolescents’ emotional reactions to the disruptions caused by the war and their coping strategies. While violent conflicts and severe traumatic stressors have been endured by adolescents, this paper delves into the historical contexts, territory disputes, the role of the external factors and potential pathways to resolution of conflict. The research methodology employed in this paper comprised analysis of the international scales such as World Health Organization, UNESCO and UNICEF, as well as empirical findings from previous studies in the fields of political science and gender studies, amongst others. The study applied war trauma and resilience frameworks to interpret the impact of the Russia- Ukraine conflict. Findings highlight the need for trauma-informed interventions tailored to the Ukrainian context.
