Man vs. Nature: Jihadist Pastoralist Violence in the Sahel

Violent extremist groups in Africa are unfortunately a regular occurrence. In the Sahel factors of pastoral related violence in increasing exponentially. Violent outbreaks between farmers and herders are erupting more frequently due to grazing rights and a lack of natural resources due to climate change. Recent pastoralist violence has occurred in Nigeria, Mali, and Burkina Faso. One thing of particular importance is the surge of pastoralists that are joining Jihadist groups in response to this upsurge in agrarian conflict. This project will cover the basics of pastoralist violence in the Sahel as well as the more recent phenomenon of Jihadist groups and their recruitment of agrarian groups in this unstable region of Africa.
