Envisioning Global South Solidarities: The Politics of Race and Caste

19 Jun 2025, 10:45

Description

This paper attempts to explore the politics of race and caste in crafting the identity of Global South feminism. Race and Caste could be analogized in order to create exclusivity and "otherization" which were conceptual categories to understand the process of decolonization. Black feminist thought and the framework of Indian women delegates' ideological standpoint were based on a conjoined identity to further the process of anti-colonialism. However, this conjoined identity had fissiparous tendencies that arose from the internal constrictions of caste-based representation. Dalit feminist theory critiques the intellectual history of the Indian internationalist position as well as finds shared coordinates of history with the common grounding of oppression with Black feminist thought. I argue the need to bring out the analytical complexity to appreciate the micro-blind spots that persisted in the study of Global South feminism and to follow the evolution of its ideological trajectory.
