Description
This paper will examine the idea of meaning or purpose in British foreign policy. Using it’s starting point Hans Morgenthau’s conception of national purpose as described in his Purpose of American Politics, the paper will examine the degree to which the United Kingdom has had some sense of meaning or purpose within its foreign policy across the 19th and 20th centuries.
