The Serbian and Bosnian War (1992-1995): An Analysis of the Core Issue that resulted in the conflict

Bosnia and Herzegovina were originally part of former Yugoslavia and comprised of multi ethnicities comprising of Bosnivaks referred as Bosnian Muslims. Under the communist regime of Yugoslavia a movement took place which changed the social, political, and economic image of both Bosnia and Herzegovina. Traditional Muslim institutions were demolished as well as the Dervish religious orders was abolished. The dervish religious order compromised of Sufi fraternity who believed in the concept of meditation. In 1961 a census agreed that Muslims would now be acknowledges as an ethnic community instead of a majority in the city of Bosnia. In 1992, when the referendum bill was set out, which officially acknowledged Bosnia and Herzegovina as independent states and Bosnia and Herzegovina had formed a diplomatic basis of existence. Serbia did not accept this. It was soon after the referendum was passed that a series of artillery bombardment was launched by the Yugoslav army in the city of Bosnia this bombardment was carried out as an ethnic cleansing and genocide where the Bosnian Muslim community were being targeted by both the Serbian army and the Yugoslavian army. This study aims to understand the ethnic identity present in Bosnia-Herzegovina itself and to comprehend the concept of political autonomy itself is important to understand the causes of the war. To understand why controlling the state and national identity of a state itself is especially important to understand. To understand how social, economic, political, and religious structure can shape the identity of a country.
