Description

Join us a virtual book talk on the newly released book Affective Imageries: Visual Politics of Wounded Bodies in Timor-Leste by Marcelle Trote Martins (Liverpool John Moores University). This thought-provoking book examines the intricate intersections of visual culture, politics, and the memory of violence in Timor-Leste. Marcelle Trote Martins explores how ‘affective imageries’ are created and mobilized, determining the status of the bodies shown in the images, and the kind of (international) attention they merit. In this book talk, we will delve into key themes from the book with Marcelle, including the emotional and affective dimensions of visual politics, and discuss how visual representations can both wound and heal communities in the aftermath of conflict.
