DESCRIPTION:On 24 June 2025\, the UK government published a new National S
 ecurity Strategy\, subtitled 'Security for the British People in a Dangero
 us World'. Bringing together a number of reviews that have been in process
  since the change of government in 2024. The document adopts ‘a hardenin
 g and sharpening of our approach’ as its ‘animating idea’\, and focu
 ses on three components - security at home\, strength abroad\, and increas
 ed sovereign and asymmetric capabilities. It pledges to spend 5% of GDP on
  National Security\, and ‘demand(s) nothing less than national unity’ 
 to achieve the strategy's goals. Nonetheless the strategy will elicit a wi
 de range of responses. \nChaired by Prof. Laura Cleary (Oakwood Internati
 onal Security\; Cranfield)\, this event offers interested academics\, poli
 cymakers and practitioners an opportunity to discuss the analysis and poli
 cy directions set out in the National Security Strategy\, asking:\n\nHow w
 ell does the NSS identify the various challenges and opportunities confron
 ting the UK?\nHow well does the NSS respond to those challenges and opport
 unities? \nWhat actions should interested experts and practitioners now c
 onsider to effectively engage with UK national security policy and its imp
