Annual IPEG workshop: International Political Economy in a world on fire

Description

Events this year are forcing us to re-examine some of our foundational understandings of international political economy. How do markets constrain and influence political leaders who don’t play by conventional rules? In a ‘post neoliberal’ era, can the institutions that have governed the global economy for decades survive, let alone rise to new challenges? How are global economic relations being recast by climate change, technological disruption and the new protectionism? Closer to home, what future for IPE scholarship in a higher education sector under unprecedented strain? How can we meet demands for decolonisation, equality, and justice against a backdrop of financial turmoil, threats to freedom of speech, and constraints on free movement?

IPEG’s 2025 workshop will be a moment to regroup and take inspiration from each other, in furtherance of our collective project to study the exercise of power and resistance in global economic relations.

Registration is free for BISA members but we ask that participants who are on permanent / open ended contracts to please consider donating a small amount towards the event, according to what they can afford. All donations will be used to supplement the travel costs of ECR participants.
