11 Jan 2027, 12:00

Description

The US-Israel War on Iran has been one of the most decisive conflicts when it comes to understanding the changing world order. The war was fought for people’s minds on social media like X, YouTube and Facebook. As the global media has played an important role in global agenda-setting and legitimising or delegitimising different international norms and practices, this paper studies prominent content on YouTube on the Iran War. It attempts to understand how this politics reflects itself in the discourse in the global media, so that the battle for global positioning is also fought on the media platforms. As YouTube has become an important source of news globally, and the news is consumed and shared widely through videos, shorts and reels, thereby influencing public opinion across borders, it is pertinent to analyse how these dynamics played out during this war. The popular and relevant content on YouTube has been selected with the help of Google Search from February 28, 2026, when the war broke out to the end of May 2026. The paper tries to understand how knowledge construction takes place through the dissemination of information, misinformation and ideas on prominent issues of global politics.
