Description
The paper aims to analyze how important the immigration agenda is for the far right, focusing on Donald Trump’s Populist Radical Right government, from 2017 to 2020. It will be made a study case of Donald Trump’s government, when immigration policies were implemented, in accordance with the main features of the Populist Radical Right, specially nativism. To achieve its goal, a brief historical retrospect will also be developed, regarding the far right in the USA, focusing on the importance of the immigration agenda to the movement. The main hypothesis is that the immigration agenda is essential not only to the far right as a whole, but also to Donald Trump due to the economic roots that come with globalization and results in inequalities and political consequences. As well, it happens due to the cultural roots, which result in multilateralism and identity crisis. During the 2016 electoral campaign, the immigration agenda was systematically brought up by Donald Trump. While in Office, this agenda remained important to him, with several Populist Radical Right policies being enforced. For instance: immigration containment, criminalization and suspension of rights, travel bans, separation of unaccompanied children at the border with Mexico, suspension of protection status, and others.
